Of All Garden Fertilizer Organic is Best
The Home Vegetable Garden will Thrive

Of all garden fertilizer organic is best ...

...It's the good stuff ...

... Organic Garden Fertilizer ...

... Creating a healthy home

for the zillions of living creatures in the underworld of our backyard vegetable gardens

... Worms like natural fertilizer

... We vegetable plants like it too.

If earth worms like the fertilizer it is good

What kind of vegetable fertilizer should a gardener use?

Where to start? ...

... Soil building and organic compost first!

Organic compost, made up of ...

...  green yard waste ... manure ... and ocean by-products is ...

... when using garden fertilizer organic is at the top of our gardener's list.

Cow poo and straw composted helps grow great vegetbles

A garden soil test will indicate any deficiencies in his soil building efforts ...

... Chemical imbalance?  ... or ...Lack of organic matter?

... Will it be a quick fix garden fertilizer ? ...  or  ...  A long term garden soil feeder ?

Make compost ... make cheap organic fertilizer

Annual soil testing will provide a trend of nutrients ... surplus or lack of .... in the garden soil.

We have heard our gardener say not to overthink this chemistry.

If unhappy with the garden soil nutrients ...

... we growing vegetables will let him know something is out of wack ...

... yellow leaves .... dying vegetable plants .... poor growth ..... low vegetable yields ....

.... all tell him we are not well ....

... More food or a change of diet is required ...

... Fertilizer organic and natural is what is called for.

Keep Fertilizer Organic and Natural

Composted ocean products, a favorite of our gardener

There are two types of commercial fertilizer for a home vegetable garden.

Both can be good or bad for vegetable plants and the envioronment if not applied properly.

Yes ... even organic garden fertilizer can be applied incorrectly!

Read the fertilizer application directions.

All gardeners should know what the substance is before adding it to the garden soil.

Use potting soil when growing vegetables in containers

Chemical Fertilizers ... are ... Inorganic ....Synthetic substances where

... The manufacturing process may not be earth friendly.

... The chemicals pass through the soil to the vegetable plant roots ... no value to the soil.

... A fast release is usual.

... There are no soil building qualities.

... It does provide nutrition to growing vegetables.

... Unwise used on it's own.

... Over time the vegetable garden soil will produce poorly

without organic matter and natural fertilizer

Leaves are free and help make compost

Organic Fertilizer  ...  Natural Fertilizer ... these ...

... may contain naturally occuring minerals

... most important components are plant and animal matter from a natural source

... slow release of nutrients

... soil building and feeding qualities most important

Both types of vegetable garden fertilizer can be manufactured to some degree.

The best commercial organic fertilizer contains  organic compost.

Add some of this to the compost pile

                                               Fertilizer composition

Nitrogen / Phosphorous / Potassium  (NPK)

                                                             4 / 4 / 4

This is the complete, all purpose, and balanced organic fertilizer our gardener top dresses with.

  • Nitrogen  promotes plant growth and photosynthesis producing nice green leaves
  • Phosphorus helps root development and formation of fruit as well as seeds
  • Potassium  regulates water in vegetable plants.

Straw mulch eventually composts adding to the soil

A soil test result will also indicate the PH ..... it should be 6-7 which is slightly acid

If too acidic add lime.

Lime in the form of pulverized limestone is easiest.

The amount of sweetener to be added ...

... will depend on the PH and the per square foot application table on the lime bag.

Enough of the science of vegetable garden fertilizer ! ...

... Although there is much more to it !

Uncompacted soil in vegetable rows allows for better nutrient absorbsion

Garden fertilizer labeling requirements vary and may be confusing.

Labels indicating ......

  • slow release
  •  natural organic
  •  for organic farming
  •  organic food production

... These are the ones to use.

More is never to much, organic compost that is.

If in doubt ask the garden supply operator for imput.

These folks will have the knowlege to make recommendations for

.... general use

.... special requirements of specific vegetable plants

.... cost versus value

.... expensive or cheap garden fertilizer

Lots of compost makings

Our gardener thinks good gardening practices ...

... while building the garden soil is most important.

Commercial fertilizer organic of course, is best

Application methods may differ ....

.... for traditional garden plot, raised beds, and container vegetable gardening ...

... broadcasting, spreader. top dressing or side dressing.

The garden fertilizer used in vegetable gardens will be what the gardener feels comfortable using.

Our gardener's preference is a fertilizer organic in nature.

He heard some where that if the garden worms like the fertilizer ....

.... it is good! .....

.... and probably organic garden fertilizer  to boot.

The gardeners own mix of compost and garden soilin a raised-garden-bed.
